Influence of Pop Culture towards Consumer Behavior

Advertising is considered to be the oldest form of pop culture. It is the revolutionized way of selling products through the idea of what mainstream and popular is.  Consumers tend to be drawn toward products or brands that are endorsed by their favorite celebrities. That is why pop culture has become a means of selling products and services.

It has a significant effect on consumer behavior because of how mass media advertises products and services using celebrities and prominent personalities. Basically, teens are drawn by what they see from other people, especially those who are famous.

Some people actually go to extreme lengths just to avail a product endorsed by their favorite superstars. They claim to experience a certain feeling of happiness and fulfillment after acquiring a product they have sought after.

The younger generation is most affected by this marketing force. If Terry Powell can give advice to businessmen, he would say that it’s better to find customers according to their age, gender and pop culture.

For instance, take a look at some successful vampire books have sold since the release of the Twilight Saga in the big screen. If you try and check the young adult fiction sections of bookstores, you will see the shelves mostly filled with different novels about vampires.  Young people are still in the stage where they seek who they want to be. Consumerism and pop culture give them a niche they can be comfortable with.
